In the Odyssey, the Greek think hospitality is an importante thing. The princess send Odysseus cloth to wear and shows the place of where the king lives,"you'll never lack for clothing or any other gift, the right of wore-cut suppliants come our way."(P174 211~212).Even the king doesn't know the name of Odysseus,he said,"you could wed my daughter and be my son-in-law and stay right here with us." (P189 357~360)And the king promice to Odyssues that he can send him to any where he want,"while my people sail you on through calm and gentle tides till you reach your land and hose, or any place you please."(P189 366~367).Those things shows the Greek's value, even they don't know your name, where you from, they will give you food and shelter and sail you home.

When they offer thir daughters hand in marrage and a house for them. "you could wed my daughter and be my son-in-law and stay right here with us" (7.358-360). There are many different instances in The Odyssey when Greek hospitality is present, but when Athena comes to Telemachus’s door is one instance where Greek hospitality is clearly present. Athena, desguised as a man, comes to Telemachus’s house to inspire him to search for his father. When she arrives at the door, she is treated with great respect even though she is a total stranger to him. “Pausing beside her there, he clasped her right hand relieving her at once of her bronze spear” (1.140-141) shows that even strangers get treated with respect. Next, Telemachus orders his servants to bring various meats to the stranger. "A carver lifted platters of meat to them, meats of every sort" (1.166-167)shows how guests get treated with utmost respect. Finally, when Odysseus is on the island of the Phaeacia, he is bathed in the home of the king. Bring a bronze cauldron and boil water in it so our guest can take a bath and recieve his gifts (8.175-176).

The Greek value of hospitality is shown in the Odyssey multiple times. One time hospitality is shown is when Nausicaa gives Odysseus clothes to wear. “They laid out cloak and shirt for him to wear” (book 6 page 175 line 237). Another time when hospitality is shown is when Nausicaa gives Odysseus olive oil so he can wash off in the river. “They gave him the golden flask of suppling olive oil and pressed him to bathe himself in the river’s stream” (book 6 page 175 lines 238-239). Another tie when hospitality is shown in the Odyssey is when Nausicaa and the girls give Odysseus food and drinks. “They hung on her words and did her will at once, set before Odysseus food and drink, and he ate and drank” (book 6 page 176 lines 273-275). Those are few of the many times when hospitality is shown in the Odyssey.

There are many ways the Greek value of hospitality is portrayed by Nausciaa and her family in the Odyssey. In the book, Nausciaa tells her friends to retrieve food for Odysseus and bathe him in the river. Nausicaa said to her friends, “So, quick, my girls, give our newfound friend some food and drink and bathe the man in the river, wherever you find some shelter from the wind”(6.229-232). At that time they did not really know who Odysseus was and they offered to him help right away. Then the girls left clothes for Odysseus and some oils for him to bathe with. “They laid out cloak and shirt for him to wear, they gave him the golden flask of suppling olive oil and pressed him to bathe himself in the river’s stream”(6.237-239). Nausicaa was kind enough to give Odysseus her own clothing for him to wear, to cover up to get back to town. Once Odysseus reached Nausicaa’s palace, he approached the king and queen and after talking to them for a while the queen ordered maids to set up a perfect resting place for Odysseus. “The white-armed queen instructed her palace maids to make a bed in the porch’s shelter, lay down some heavy purple throws for the bed itself, and over it spread some blankets, thick woolly robes, a warm covering laid top.” (7.384-397) Still, not knowing who Odysseus was, their family was so inviting to him. Greek hospitality was very important to Nausiciaa and her family, as it is showed in the book.

Hospitality is clearly important to the Greeks in the Odyssey, shown in many parts of the book. One part in the book it is shown is when Odysseus goes to a king and queens palace begging for help. There the king says “You could wed my daughter and be my son-in-law and stay right here with us, I’d give you a house and great wealth- If you choose to stay that is” (6.358). In book 1 Telemachus shows Hospitality to Athena. He brings Athena to a high roofed hall, there he made her a chair of honor and a foot rest (1.147). He makes her comfortable. Another way hospitality is shown in the Odyssey is in book six, Nausicaa helps out Odysseus. “They laid out cloak and shirt for him to wear, they gave him the golden flask of supplying olive oil and pressed him to bathe himself” (6.237). That is how hospitality is shown in many parts of the Odyssey.

In the Odyssey, the Greek think hospitality is a importante thing. It clear shows in the dialog between king and Odysseus. At first Odysseus told the king how he get here, and how he meets the princess. However the king thought of,"she never escorted you to our house with all her maids."(P189 343-344) Shows the Greeks invite the guest to them house even don't know where they from. Then the king said,"you could wed my daughter and be my son-in-law and stay right here with us."(357-360)How surprice it was! While, the king doesn't know what character Odysseus is,what he's job.At last, the king promis to Odysseus,"my people sail you to your land and house,or and place you please."Odysseus didn't need to pay anything on it and he can get gift from here. The Greek think whereever you come from is there's friends.

The Greek value of hospitality was displayed many times throughout book 6 in Odyssey with Nausicaa and Odysseus’ first encounter. Nausicaa did not fear him, as he came out of the woods covered in dirt and a branch. She heard him out as he pleaded for her help; she accepted all of this and decided she would help him. The first task Nausicaa helped Odysseus with was giving him clothes and oil to bathe with. Nausicaa called out to her friends that ran away from Odysseus. So quick, my girls, help our new friend bathe in the river, and find some shelter from the wind (6.229). They did as they were told. Not only did they bathe him, Nausicaa helped him gain back his strength by giving Odysseus food and something to drink. "They hung on her words and did her will at once, set before Odysseus food and drink, and he ate and drank, the great Odysseus, long deprived, so ravenous now- it seemed like years since he had tasted food." (6.273) After he ate, Nausicaa did one more thing for him. She brought him back to her palace to meet her parents, the king and queen; so that they could help Odysseus get back home. “Up with you now, my friend, and off to town we go. I’ll see you into my wise father’s palace where, I promise you, you’ll meet all the best Phaeacians.” (6.281-283) Those were some ways Greek hospitality was shown throughout in the Odyssey.

The hospitality of the Odyssey is, after the history and folktales, very important. There are many people help him b/c his smart words and actions, he makes others trust him, then help him. It’s good that he never be rude. The princess takes him to the gate of her town. She doesn’t take him together to the palace, just b/c scared of others talk something bad about that, she really wants to help him instead. “Good riddance! Let the girl roving to find herself a man from foreign parts. She only spurns her own – countless Phaeacians round about who court her, nothing but best.” (6, 303-312) Actually, I think it is a bad hospitality to a stranger, they don’t know anything about him. On the other hand, in the palace of the king and the queen, the old revered Echeneus helps Odysseus to have a seat and the food. “Come, raise him up and seat the stranger now, in a silver-studded chair, and tell the heralds to mix more wine for all so we can pour out cups to Zeus who loves the lightning, champion of suppliants—suppliants’ rights are sacred.” (7, P184, L189-197) The king listens to him b/c he knows a lot about history and folktales cover the land, maybe he is the only person who can help Odysseys. Close to end of the book 7, the king promises Odysseus they will send him home. “… then we turn our minds to his passage home, so under our convoy our new friend can travel back to his own land—no toil, no troubles—soon, rejoicing, even if his home’s world away.” (7, 226-231) It shows that the hospitality of the country to send their guest home. So in the Odyssey, the hospitality shows after the history and folktales, very important.

The Greeks show much hospitality to Odysseus throughout the Odyssey. Odysseus has seen much hospitality on his quest for home. An example of hospitality that Odysseus has seen was on the island with Calypso, even when she didn’t want him to go, “… And Odysseus took the seat that Hremes just left, while the nymph set out before him every kind of food and drink that mortal men will take”(5.226-229). That shows that Greeks put hospitality above everything else. Another act of hospitality Odysseus experiences is the kindness of the princess Nausicaa shows him even though she is scared”But here’s an unlucky wanderer strayed our way and we must tend him well” (6. 226-227) so again above any emotions they are feeling the Greeks show hospitality

In the epic poem The Odyssey, the greeks value hospitiality in many ways. First when Nausicca first meets Odysseus she gives him oils so he can bathe in the creek. He says while taking a bath, " Stand where you are, dear girls, a good way off, so i can rinse the brine from my shoulders now and rub myself with oils". Another way there is hospitality shown is when Naussica gives him something to drink. She tells some some maids, "So, quick, my girls, and give our newfound friend some food and drink, and bathe hime in the river." The final way how greeks show hopitality is when the the king and queen give Odysseus somewhere to sit. The king says to his staff, "How indecent, look, our guest on the ground, in the ashes by the fire! You people are holding back, waiting for your signal. Come, raise him up and seat the stranger now, in a silver studded chair." Those are just tree ways that grreks show their value for hospitality.

There are only a few times when Hospitality is show. For instance, when Odysseus was found in the kingdom nasicca they throw a party. And then again they didn’t even know his name. So hospitality is show greatly to the greeks. They Believe that you should show hospitality no matter what.

The value of hospitality in the book The Odyssey is very great, here are three pages that will shows you how much hospitality is important in the book,The first page that is when Nausicca gives Odyseuss the clothing to cover himself so that when he walks into town he wouldn't be naked(page:174 Line:210),the second is when Nausicca takes Odyseuss back to the palace to met her father king Alcinous and queen Arete, the third is when the king alcinous invites Odyseuss to stay with them since he has no where to live.

In book 7 of the Odyssey it shows how the Greeks value hospitality between the king and queen to Odysseus. When the king and queen give him a chair to sit in it show that they value hospitality very highly. The king says to his people, "Raise him up and seat the stranger now, in a silver studded chair" (7. 193-194). Also when the king and queen offer Odysseus a place to stay and a ship to take him home it shows how they even show hospitality to strangers. Homer writes, “We turn our minds to his passage home" (7.231). Another time when the king and queen offer their daughters hand in marriage and a house for them. The king says to Odysseus, "You could wed my daughter and be my son-in-law and stay right here with us" (7.358-360). In the Odyssey the Greeks show how they value hospitality.
