ithink that odyseus, the crew and fate are the main reasons for the mens death.i think that odyssues was the casue of there death because he is there leader.the crew are the reason they died because they are the ones that died, and also they could of just not ate the cattle.it is fates fault because it could of been an unescapable death.

1.I believe it is the crews fault for killing the cattle. "Once they'd prayed, slaughtered and skinned the cattle, they cut the thighbones out"

The crew could be the ones to blame becasue they were the one who went against what Odysseus told them not to do. As homer wrote, "But swear me a binding oath, all here, that if we come on herd of cattle or fien flock of sheep, not one man among us- blind in his reckles ways- will slaughter an ox or ram. Just eat in peace, content with the food immortal Circe gave us.'"(12.323-327).

1.One way it can be answered is it was the crews fault for their own death because Odysseus made the crew swear not to touch the cattle on the island."Time and again they told me to shun this island of the Sun, the joy of man. Here, they warned, the worst disaster awaits us."(page 279 lines 296-299)

First it was the crews fault, the author writes,"Once they'd prayed, slaughtered and skinned the cattle, they cut the thighbones out". The next person responsible is Odysseus because he fell asleep, he says,"Father Zeus! the rest of you blissful gods who never die, you with your fatal sleep, you lulled me into disaster." The last person who is responsible is Zeus because he made Odysseus fall asleep, Odysseus says to him,,"Father Zeus! the rest of you blissful gods who never die, you with your fatal sleep, you lulled me into disaster."

I think it was the Zues fault like said if someone tells you to do something you do it the reason I think that is foud in this quote 287{The majestic king slatered a ox for them to cronuses only son} That reason I interpret it as zues killed a animal which got the taste in the crew which even more tempted them to kill the sun gods cattle because they new it would taste good beacause Zues fed them when they were hungrey so they remembered what cattle tasted like so they killed the flocks.

It is the crews fault for killing the cattle because Odysseus told the crew not to kill the cattle but they disobeyed him anyway "'Eurylochus I'm one against all - the upper hand is yours. But swear me a blinding oath, all here, that if we come on a herd of cattle or fine flock of sheep, not one man among us- blind in his reckless ways - will slaughter an ox or ram"(12,321). The crew killing the cattle is Odysseus fault because he was sleeping when the crew decided to kill the cattle and if he was awake he could have stopped him "'Father Zues! the rest of you blissful gods who never die - you with your fatal sleep, you lulled me into disaster. Left on their own, look what a monstrous thing my crew concocted!"(12,398). The crews death is Zues fault because he struck them with a thunderbolt once he made the seas quiet "And for the guilty ones, why, soon enough on the wine-dark sea I'll hit their racing ship with a white-hot bolt, I'll tear it into splinters'"(12,416). The crews death is Eurylochus fault because he urges the crew to make Odysseus let them land on the island and if he didnt they would have never killed the cattle "So Eurylochus urged, and the shipmates cheered"(12,319).

I think the crew members are responsible for their own deaths because...Example 1- Odysseus told his men clearly to not go near the cattle of the sun. Quote 1 - "So I warned, and my headstrong men complied. But for one whole month the South Wind blew nonstop, no other wind came up, none but the South-southeast. As long as our food and ruddy wine held out, the crew, eager to save their lives, kept hands off the herds."

I Believe that it is the crews fault. Odyssues told the crew not to touch the cattle and they did anyway. Eurylochus is one of the reasons responisble for the crew. He was only consered about eating.Odyseus because he didnt stay up with his crew. Zeus because he killed the crew and Hilios because he asked zeus to kill them.

It can be Odysseus's fault because he falls asleep and doesn't watch his crew so they do not have guidance so they do wrong, "He fell asleep, sweet sound sleep." It can be the crews fault because Odysseus makes them swear an oath to not kill the cattle, "keep your hands off all these herds of cattle or else we will pay the price." It can also be Zeus's fault because he could have not touched any of Odysseus's crew after all the sacrifices and libations to the gods, but instead he,"blew the south wind for a month." The fourth person could be to blame is Helios because , " He cried out to all the immortals," when he could have just left it to deal with the crew himself.

The crew killed the sheep. “Once they prayed, slaughtered and skinned the cattle, they cut the thighbones out, they wrapped them round in fat, a double fold sliced clean and topped with strips of flesh.” (12. 386-388)

There can be three ways that the question of whos fault is it for Odysseus' crew dieing, can be answered. One is it is Odysseus' fault. they swear to Odysseus that they would not kill sheep, but trhey do. For that they are killed. "They quickly swore the oath that I required and once they had vowed they'd never harm the herds."(12.228)The second way the question could be answered is that it was Odysseus' fault. While his crew was off killing the sheep, Odysseus was sleeping. Bedcause he was sleeping he could not make his crew not kill the sheep. In the book it says "." The last way the question could be answered is that it is Zues' fault. Zues is the one who killd his crew for killing the sheep. He didnt need to kill humans loosing sheep. When they left the island zues made a storm killing Odysseus' crew for killing the sheep. (12.435)

I think Posiedon was not directly realated to the reason Odysseus men turned on him but he was the one that cause him many casualities on his journey home leading him to there. I feel that it was ment to happen that he was supposed to end there like it was a part of Posiedons plan.

Eurylochus said to Odysseus's crew "So up with you now, let's drive off the pick of Helios' sleek herds, slaughter them to the gods who rule the skies up there" (12.369-371). It is Eurylochus's fault because he inspired the crew to kill Helios' herd while Odysseus was asleep. Odysseus said to Zeus "Father Zeus! The rest of you blissful gods who never die-you with your fatal sleep, you lulled me to disaster" (12.398-399). it is also Odysseus's fault because he fell asleep so he couldn't stop his men from killing Helios' herd. Helios complained to Zeus "Father Zeus! The rest of you blissful gods who never die- punish them all, that crew of Laertes' son Odysseus" (12.407-408). It is Helios's fault because he told Zeus to punish Odysseus's crew.

In the first way i think it could be their own fault, they were told not to eat the cattle of the sun god. They chose to eat it, they suffered. "Keep your hands off all these herds or we will pay the price!"
