In Inheret the Wind, the town of Hillsboro is a fictional representation of Dayton, TN. Both HIllsboro and Dayton are closed-minded communities. In your opinion, is your community (Wallingford, Swarthmore, Rutledge, Media, etc.) an open-minded community? Try to give specific reasons for your answer.

I live in Swarthmore and in my opinion, I think it is a generally close-minded community. There has been attempts of building certain shops and stores into the town and they have failed because of the citizens. For example, a hotel was beginning to be built right near center-town, but it was stopped because the town did not allow it. This is most likely because the citizens did not want people from out of town, with different beliefs and personalities, to come into the town and influence citizen's thoughts and beliefs.

I think that Wallingford is fairly open minded. Obviously we are not a tight-knit southern community. Each person is exposed to the public media, and they are individual enough to develope their own opinions seperate to those of the community.More likely than not there will always be several people who are willing to accept an idea. So as a community, Wallingford could probably be considered open minded, even though an individual's thoughts could be very narrow.

I think that my school district is an opened minded community, i think this for several reasons. One reason is that we live in the North. People who live in the north are usually more educated and smarter. Another reason is that we believe mostly what we are told and what major scientists say. I guess we believe believe what is proven and not just what we think or hope is right.

Yes, I think that our community is open minded because there is not much hate in our community. An example of this is our school, our school have something called a respect pledge where we have to respect each other regardless of our race, ethicity, work ethic, character, personality, and gender. There is also little to no bullying around the district.

I believe that wallingford is both open and close minded, meaning the people of the town. I know some people that are open to others cultures and ideas. I know others that are not. Both of these kinds of people are in this town in my opinion. I believe it is who you talk to to decide if Wallingford is open or closed minded.

I think that where we live, ideas are almost always entertained. Even though some people dont't agree with some ideas, such as taking away the busing system for SRS, the topics are almost always disscussed even if they are not passed. Also, I feel that people in our town are constently come up with different causes for certian issues going on. I think that are town is not close minded like Daytom, TN.

I think that Swarthmore is a bit of both. The people of our town all have different religions, and we believe in different things. But the town in general is very closed. Our town is very enviromentally friendly, and we are very closed to anything bad to the enviroment. Our town also puts kids first a lot. We have at least 4 different day cares, 3 preschools, 2 after school clubs, and many summer day camps for kids. We also have something that is called SRA, that stands for Swarthmore Recreation Association. We are more open minded in that sense, because they try to make different sports available to all people of different ages. For example, my mom gets to play soccer for a league because of it. However, because so many Swathmoreans are involved in SRA and other activities like this, and we all go to the same pool in the summer, the classic thing in our town is "everybody knows eachother". This makes us sort of closed, because many of us just know eachother. We definetly have friends that live in other places, but we know many of them because of activities they do that are involved with Swarthmore. So in a sense, we are both closed and opened.

I think that media is an open minded community for a couple of reasons. There are many different races and ethnicities that are mixed in between. With all of these different kinds of people there are plenty of different ideas and cultures. Hate crimes are really rare and people are usually quite accepting to new and controversial ideas. Although there is some divide from the lower income communities of media and the higher ones, people still get along and have no problem socializing with those in another tier.

I think that swarthmore is a open-minded community. They are open to multiple opinions such as religion and evolution and lots of other ideas. There are many different people in swarthmore and they all believe their own ideas. so in my opinion people are very open-minded in swarthmore.

The town of Hillsboro/Dayton are like Swarthmore and Wallingford in the way that both towns are small communities. Every body knows everybody. But i think Swartmore and Wallingford are more of a close-minded community. Swarthmore and Wallingford are "Green" towns were most people recycle and it seems like everybody is on the same page because its been such a "Green" town for so long. Most people are based on the same religion and agree on political issues.

I think the entire Wallingford-Swarthmore School District community is very open-minded. In general, we like to have a diverse community with all different walks of life. We are also kind of open to trying new things. Specifically at the high school, we have a variety of different clubs and most people try to join a club that they have never done before in attempt to see a different style or way of life. I think in general we are not very prejudice either. I don't mean that in the form of races or religions, but we do not come to conclusions about anything before having the experience with that thing. Overall, I think all of our communities do a good job of being open-minded towards everything.

I believe Swarthmore is both close minded and open minded. It is open minded in ways of politics. Although in Swarthmore I would consider the democrat population to be a bit more than republican, both parties generally are even throughout the community. It is close minded in ways that suggest benefits for the community, for example if we should recycle number 6 plastics, mostly everyone would agree but another open minded community would have an agreeing side and the other side would have a side of objection. Also, it seems in Swarthmore those who have been around longer are more "closely minded" rather than the newer residents who seem to be more open minded.

In my opinion i think that in Swarthmore there are many close minded people bnut there is also a fair amount of open minded people. If you talk to the older group of Swarthmore then you will probably find the community of Swarthmore to be close minded. You will find this because they pretty conservative and they always want to be in charge of everything even this that dont really effect them. On the other hand if you were to talk to the younger generation of Swarthmore then you would probably find Swarthmore to be a open minded community. You would think this because they are always willing to try something new and will do whatever it takes to better the community.

I believe that our district is very open-minded. I think so because we have all types of religions and races in our community. There are Caucasians, African Americans, Asians ect. that go to our school and live around eachother. I believe we are also open-minded because we have different religions in our community. There are Christians, Jews, and others. We also have our different forms of government we like. There are Republicans and Democrats all around eachother.

In my opinion, I think that the Wallingford, Swarthmore, Rutledge, Media communities are pretty open-minded. I believe this to be the case, because we give everyone the opportunities they deserve. We, as a community, observe different point of views and do not usually pass judgements on people or things before experiencing them. For an example that has to due with law, during jury duty, people are interviewed before hand to determine which people are fair, nonjudgemental, and know the extents of justice and punishment, in order to select the most open-minded jury people. Also, many people in our communities are open-minded because of their choices in everday life, for even the little things such as their style of clothing, friends, and food. In our communities, we are pretty open-minded about things.

in my opinion, Media is a close-minded community. Nothing Really happens in Media except for parades that's all I know. I usually go for a walk every weekend in Media and nothing seems to be happening there, but sometimes i hear that media is the best place to be around.Better thatn being in Wallingford,Rutledge, and Swathmore. Media i really haven't seen any new ideas come along so state my opinion tha Media is a close-minded community.

I live in Swarthmore, and my opinion is that it is more a close-minded communitity then a open-minded one. Swarthmores citizens seem like they generally don't want to be influenced by others beliefs and religions since most people who live in Swarthmore have similar beliefs. My opinion is Swarthmore is close-minded.

Swathmore (which is the community in which i spend the most time in) is extreamly open minded. This is a town in which most of its residents use new concepts and ideas to help the environment, instead of simply sticking to their old ways. Swathmore also is very supportive of diversity in race, sexual orientation and nationality. Swathmore is a very accepting, modern, and open town to all who want to join it's community.

In my opinion my community open -minded because they are willing to hear about new ideas. My community is open minded because we always talk about ideas and not argue about ideas and situations in the town. Some of the stuff they talked about are the SRS playground and planting more trees.

Considering some of the things I hear students say in our school and community, I feel that we have many judgmental and close-minded people, but what town does'nt? That's something you can't get away from, sadley. People in our school are so set that making stupid lifstyle choices make people cool. Even though that sounds really stereo typical it's true. I have seen people change themselves to "fit in" or make other people happy which is a very sad thing to see. Now as a community I feel we provide many opurtunities to be open-minded. We have many diffrent churches and synagogues as well as a mixture of political views. We have diffrent programs for all types of beliefs. I am not saying that our entire town is closed minded but the majority of the students make bad choices in order to look "cool" and are close minded in that way. You hear students make remarks against beliefs and good choices and thats the reason they can be close-minded.
