Today in class I read from the Hebrew Bible, what Christians commonly call the Old Testament. How did you feel about this? Is it ok for public school teachers to use the Bible or other scripture in class? Who should get to decide the answers to these questions--governments, school boards, principals, teachers, students?

I felt no different after the readings then before them because it is something i am used to. I think it is ok for them to use the bible, as long as they don't try to make you believe in something that you don't. I personally think that the government should choose what the ruling on this is in public schools because you don't want people from different places around the country to be learning different things.

I think it is ok for a teacher to read religious texts in a public school as long as the teacher is reading it for the literature of the script and is not expressing their beliefs about the religion or religions they concern. Personally, I was not uncomfortable with the reading of Genesis during class. This might be true because I participate in Christian holidays even though I don't believe in the religion. I think the teachers and individual students should decide whether or not to use the Bible or any other religious texts during class. This would ensure the students are comfortable with the lesson being taught and it wouldn't hold some schools back from teaching certain things.

Using the bible or any other religious text for educational purposes only (literature, philosophy, theology) is acceptable and in some cases is important. The bible should not however be pushed onto or preached to students in a public school, for it is unconstitutional and defeats many fundamental laws of science/evolution. There is just too much information on the theory to just denounce it, and for the bible to be taught solely for the purpose of keeping a religion alive is unacceptable. I think it should be up to the teacher, using their best judgment as to how, and why the bible should be used in class in an educational manner.

I didn't feel any different because I have heard it before. I think its ok for certain reasons like if the teacher reads it because its about the lesson. I think that the teachers and the students should decide the answers.

When Mr. Peterson read to us from the Hebrew bible in class today I didn't feel in anyway uncomfortable with this since I have known the story before. I personally think that it was a good story and other than that I do not feel in anyway uncomfortable with him reading the Genesis. I also think that it is alright for teachers to use the Bible or other scriptures in class. However it is not alright for teachers to try and force the students to listen to what they do not want to listen, religion wise. I think that the decision remains on the hands of the parents and the students themselves.

I believe that in public schools teachers can use the bible or other religious material in their class only if they are using it in their curriculum. After Mr.Peterson read from the bible in class i didnt feel any different becaus i understand it was part of what he was going to teach today and i am also used to the bible so it didnt effect me. I think that it is up to the discretion knowing that if it sounds like he is preaching that he could get into trouble.

When Mr. Peterson read the Hebrew Bible, I felt that it was acceptable and I didn’t feel uncomfortable. I think that the Bible is appropriate for teachers to read at public schools without forcing students to believe in the religion. However, I do think that the government should be able to act on about this and think about it as well.

I feel that it is okay for teachers to read the bible in public schools as long as they are not teaching it in a religious way, and they are just using it to help them teach. I felt no different after Mr. P read us the bible it probably because i have grown up with the bible. I think that the principal of the school should decide the regulations on the teachings of religion because he/she knows the community and how they would react to the different situations.

I have no problem with teachers reading passages from the Bible. I think it is completely fine to read from the Bible even in public schools. But i think the students should get to decide if this is okay or not. If students aren't comfortable with this, then the teachers shouldn't read from it. But the goverenment and the schoolboard shouldn't be in charge of this desision, it's up to the students.

Today when you read the Bible in class I didn’t feel much different, although it was a little different and out of the ordinary. I think that if teachers read from the bible in school it is ok as long as it goes along with the lesson and is used as a teaching tool and not for religious reasons. I think that the government should have set rules limiting the amount of use of the Bible in schools but not ban it completely. I think that the school board should also have a say in the amount of use in there particular school.

I didn't mind reading the bible in class. I felt that there was nothing wrong with it. There were no attemepts to convert anybody to Christianity, and as long as there's no lessons claiming that everyone should believe in something they don't, it's perfectly ok. I feel that the students should be able to decide. Just because the school board is ok with reading the bible in class, or vise versa, it doesn't mean that the students agree with it. In the end, the students are the ones in the classroom being taught, and they should have the right to say whether or not the bible is right or wrong in school.

When Mr. Peterson read the Bible in class I did not feel uncomfortable. But I believe that the student and teaching who are uncomfortable with learning/teaching about the religion or theorys should have the right to be excused. I also think that religion and theory's should be taught if they are in the coriculum as long as the ones who are uncomfortable can be excused from the teachings.

There are many different views on the situation . Personally I believe religion is a major part of history and literature. Therefore it should be taught and reviewed frequently. However the easiest way to avoid controversy (govt, school boards, parents) is to prohibit these teachings. Although it is very important there are ways to go around it. This situation is also a major conflict between public and private/catholic schools.

I did not feel uncomfortable while Mr. Peterson was reading the Bible during class because I knew that it had something to do with what we were going to be doing for the day. I think it is okay for public schools to use religious writings, as long as it is clear that they have a reason and are not perching it. In some classes including English and history you can't teach certain things without using religion so it should be okay as long as the teacher is not telling the students "this is what is true." I should be up to the teacher, if the teacher feels that the subject matter is appropriated to what they are learning than it should be fine.

I think that it is okay that you are reading us passages from the bible. There is no harm in reading them; those who participate in other religions just don't have to believe it. It's not like your telling us that what is said in the bible is right and that the other religions are wrong, you are just simply informing us on the parts of the bible. I also believe that every teacher should be able to choose for themselves what is appropriate to teach.

I felt a little awkward when you read the bible to us in class because no teachers have ever done this in any of my classes. I think it is fine to read religious books including the bible, unless the teacher is enforcing the religious thoughts and views. Also, they should not talk to their students about their religion and thoughts and not ask their students about theirs. I think that the school board should decide if the schools are aloud to do this because obviously catholic schools and other religious schools should be allowed to, but it is more of a concerversy in a public school. If The government decided, they would have to make all school either allowed or not allowed to do this, but if it's each school board deciding, they can do what is best for that specific school. Also, if it was the students, teachers, and parents deciding, they would be biest towards their own thoughts on religion.

When Mr. Peterson read the part of the bible i felt ok with it. in my opinion is should be ok for public schools to read sections of the bible as long as they don't enforce the information to the students. i think it should be the decision of the students because if they want to learn about it then they should be allowed to and if they don't want to learn about it they don't have to.

Teachers should be the ones to make the decition what kids should learn. Teachers are qualified not only on how to teach but what to teach and both abilitys should be exersized in the classroom.
