In Inheret the Wind, the town of Hillsboro is a fictional representation of Dayton, TN. Both HIllsboro and Dayton are closed-minded communities. In your opinion, is your community (Wallingford, Swarthmore, Rutledge, Media, etc.) an open-minded community? Try to give specific reasons for your answer.

My neighborhood is pretty open-minded, there are lots of different types of people and nobody really imposes beliefs onto anyone else. I'm pretty sure most of my neighbors are Christians and believe in God but I don't think that they would shun someone who didn't. I think that we are more open-minded than some other communities because nobody has very strong beliefs about anything.

I think Swarthmore is a fairly open-minded community. Although it is small, its not a town where everyone knows each other. Thats not to say if you are walking around town that people wont give you a smile and hello, and ask how your day was. That is one of the cool thing about Swarthmore, I'll be walking into town and i will pass someone who I have never seen in my life before and have a conversation, granted the conversation consists of

In my opinion, Swarthmore is a closed-minded community just like Hillsboro. Swarthmore is very set in their ways and very traditional. Most of the people who live here have similiar religious and political beliefs, very reluctant to open to others. There is also lots of interbreeding, where everyone's grandma and grandpa grew up in the same house they currently living in, making everyone somehow related or live long friends.

I suppose Swarthmore is open-minded. I guess. Swarthmore, religiously, is quite diverse and has a relatively high population of Jewish people, but also has many Christians (of several variations). Then again, the people of Swarthmore are known to be snobbish and complain about a lot of subjects, so I have no clue.

The community I live in is Wallingford and I believe my community is closed-minded. I believe this because people in Wallingofrd don't share their views on religion and politics. My community also do what they want and the way they want to do it. We do not share ideas, or talk about our ideas to friends or neighbors in the community. Wallingford also is closed-minded because people don't really care about other people views in the community, they only care about themselves. So, this is why Wallingford is a closed-minded community.

I think the community of Media is a very open minded community. Being that they have a variety of political views. When i walk around during elections I find that my neighborhood of "Bowling Green" is conservative and repulican based on the campaign signs and bumper stickers. When i walk deeper into media, down state street i find that there are many democratic and liberal campaign signs.

My community as a whole is not extremely open-minded, but it is not really close-minded, either. Wallingford seems to be more of a mix of conservative and liberal people. In my neighborhood, for example, there are a lot of conservative people who are usually Republicans, while others are more liberal.

In my opinion, Swarthmore is, for the most part, a close-minded community. THe people are very eco-friendly and openminded about anything that has to do with saving the environment, but everything else is not this way. The majority of the people in my neighborhood are democratic, and constantly trying to advertise their beliefs. T

I live in both Wallingford and Swarthmore. I think that Wallingford is narrow-minded and Swarthmore is open-minded. In Swarthmore, everyone is somewhat weird and liberal. People don't really judge each other. The people of Swarthmore are happy-go-lucky people that don't really care about the differences in people. Wallingford, on the other hand, is narrow-minded. People are judgemental and don't accept each other as easily. The people of Wallingford come off to me as stuck-up and self-centered. I know that these descriptions don't fit every household of Wallingford/Swarthmore, but I feel they describe the majority.

Every community is close-minded, regardless of the size and population. Most people in a community have a set place where they eat, where they take vacations, and who they talk to. People in community tend to be against new ideas. Examples of this have been seen in history where society rejects new ideas such as equality and evolution. Although the north is more willing to widely accept ideas such as these, that does not make the reigon an open-minded community. The citizens of the community help the same people, and if it is a person they don't know, and still needs help, they probably won't help. An example of this is that citizens mail goods to troops at war in a specific unit. They will almost never mail goods to other troops in other units. These examples, as seen above, every community is a close-minded community.

I believe that Wallingford is a rather open-minded community. Everyone has different beliefs when it comes to religion, and while Christianity is favored, none of the other religions come under fire or are discriminated against.

I think that Wallingford is a pretty open-minded community about many things. People are very open-minded about politics. It is also open minded about other things besides politics. The religions in this area are diverse, and all religions are welcome. There seem to be a variety of political views around here based on signs and bumper stickers.

The Swarthmore community is all about the environment, but they are close-minded and open-minded about it. Close-minded because all we seem to care about is the envrionment and nothing else. However, open-minded because we are willing to do anything to save the envirnonment. Overall I think we are a close-minded town though because we think that everyone should have the same opinions about everything.

UnlikeDayton Tennessee, my town is very open minded. I live in Media. The town of Media is very diverse and is always looking for new things. For example, they just recently opened an African clothing and decor shop, and a thai noodle bar. We also have the typical american restaurants and shops such as pizza places, Hallmark's, and fast food. These shops represent a diverse town that isalways open for new things.

I live in Media, it's almost the oppostie of Dayton and Hillsboro. Media is a very open minded community, there are very diverse people, stores, restaurants, etc. People don't really care about everyone elses views on religion and politics. Media has many stores/restaurants that are based on different cultures. This is how Media is an open minded community.

I think that all towns are closed minded in at least a few small ways but definitely not to the extent of Dayton or Hillsboro. For instance, I do not even know the religion of most people in my neighborhood and have never been asked specifically to share my own views. We live in an area that is, for the most part, racially diverse and open minded towards other cultures. However, most people are closed minded about their political views, although I think of this more as just standing by their beliefs since no one will attempt to force their own ideas on others. All people can be closed minded occasionally about things they believe strongly in but as a whole, compared to other communities, I think that mine is very accepting.

Wallingford could be considered closed when considering different aspects of society. Politically, people are extremely set in their ways and do not take kindly to debate or contradiction. Religiously, there is a fair amount of diversity, but it is generally not discussed. The main reason Wallingford may be considered close-minded is due to its inability for debate or discussion without many people getting very offended. Communities in which discussion is encouraged without being encumbered by anger and harsh opinions would be considered open-minded, making Wallingford clearly closed.

My community tolerates people of various races and religion; Christians don't bug atheists about not going to church or for not being religious. A lot of people are open to new ideas, while others are not.

The great utopia of Media Pennsyvania is a very open minded community. Unlike The Socialist Union of the Swarthmore Bourough, we take pride in our thriving Capitalism society. There are both large chain stores and small businesses in downtown Media. We embrace both large scale businesses and suport our small businesses that make our town unique. There are many odd activities taking place in Media constantly that its open minded citizens take part in. There are many different kinds of religous buildings in Media showing the diversity of its people.

In my opinion, my community of Rose Valley, Pennsylvania is a open-minded community. People in the town are very accepting of new ideas and concepts on many different things. Most of the people are Catholic or Jewish, but nobody will tell you that you are "wrong" for believing something. That is why I think Rose Valley is an open-minded community.

Yes, in my opinion, Wallingford is a pretty open-minded community to most ideas. Most of the people living here can accept most ideas easily after they learn the idea and it makes sense. Although if you talk to certain people about certain subjects, they won't listen to you at all. For example, first generation Chinese parents rarely accept any new ideas on how to live and education. But second generation children will actually think the idea through before not accepting it.So overall, I think that Wallingford can be open-minded, but it really depends on who you are talking and what you are talking about.

I think that my community, which is Swarthmore, is extremely open-minded. First off, the students at Swarthmore College are very diverse, ranging from bearded "faux-anarchist, faux-intellectual" hipsters to oxford shirt-wearing editorial-writing conservative Tea Partiers. I've met them. They exist. Also, Swarthmore has populated with many silver-haired baby boomers who smoke marijuana on the park bench and read dogeared copies of Atlas Shrugged and enjoyed themselves far too much between 1967 and 1975. When approached with any new idea, they always say "That's great!" Finally, Swarthmore is home to many kids of my generation with modern and progressive ideas. They only get mad when the students at Swarthmore College call them "ville rats" for enjoying a Friday evening in the "ville." Swarthmore is a quite open-minded place filled with very diverse people.

I think the community of Wallingford is an open-minded community. Going to a public school that is not bias or prejudice shows everyone that we are an open-minded community. At school, we learn new skills in academics and socail life. If this was a close minded community, everyone would be firm with their beliefs instead of being willing to learn new ideas in school. Alos, as far as i'm concerned, everyone is willing to listen and accept other people's ideas'. Also, no one i know is racist or bias against a particular idea.

I believe that the Wallingford community, or at least the people who live in my neighborhood, are open-minded about religion. I think this because even though my family and I are the only Jewish people in my neighborhood, my neighbors act like they are excepting of my family. We are still invited to the neighborhood parties and no one seems to care that we are different. If the people in my neighborhood do care that my family and I do not have the same beliefs as them at least they do not show that they are bothered by it. So, from what I can see my community appears to be open-minded about religion.

In my opinion, Wallingford is kind of closed-minded since there aren't many different changes with the community and most of the time everything is the same. I barely talk with my neighbors and I never see anybody talking with other people. Nobody shares any ideas about things with each other. My community isn't completely closed-minded because the people living there don't just judge each other on what their ideas are. I would say my community is in between open-minded and closed-minded.

By my knowledge, I have never felt that the commmunity in which I dwell (Wallingford) would exude an aura of hatred if one were affiliated with a religion or such deviant from the norm of the commmunity. I am certain that there would be some people who would look at such a person as "that guy", but I do not think that this pattern of thought would represent the spirit of the rest of the neighbors.
