Have you ever come back to school and already forgotten stuff that you learned from last year? Well this is probably because your brain has not been as active as it should have been over the summer. Summer reading will help you with this problem. Summer reading will help because you will be refreshing your brain every so often. Also you will be challenging your brain and keeping it active; therefore, you will have a better chance of remembering things from school. I think that high schools should assign summer reading because it keeps the students brains active over the summer, gives teachers something to discuss and test the Students on when they get back from summer, and it helps widen students perspective on genres of books.

Do you think that summer reading is a good idea? Well I think it is very helpful for the students. When schools assign summer reading it can help kids remember what they learned over the school year. When students remember what they did the last year it will help them the next year. I think that high schools should assign summer reading because it gives students academic work to do over the summer, the assignments will keep the students brains refreshed and keeps the students active.

Did you know that over the summer, 1/4th of students loose significant reading skills learned in school? This is not good because schools would have to teach these things all over again in school and they wouldn’t learn anything new. Doing nothing over the summer is a bad idea, but something as simple and fun as reading can get you in the mind set for school in the last months of summer. In my opinion, I support summer reading because it promotes learning, it keeps the brain active, and it can be fun.

Have you ever thought how advanced our generation would be, in literary skill terms, if every student read more than ten books every year? Approximately four to five books are read each school year, sometimes even less. If students were assigned reading over the summer, students and schools would be academically on track and also advanced. Schools argue whether summer reading should be mandatory or if it is unnecessary. Teachers should assign summer reading because students can learn to appreciate reading, it benefits educational skills over time and allows all students to start the year with an easy project.

Should high schools really make their kids waste their time that they could be swimming in the beach, or hanging out with friends on the boardwalk, while reading? Most kids want to have as much fun as possible during their summer, and I don’t think that reading assigned books fits in that category. When kids are forced to read a book they do not desire, they tend to read the book slower, and pay less attention to the book. So when the child is brought back to school and tested on it, they will obviously not do well. Therefore, there is no point in even assigning the book. Reading a summer book and taking chapter notes on it should be and extra credit option, if anything. Not a requirement. This also interferes with the kid’s summer relaxation time. High schools should not assign summer reading to the students for several reasons; the kids need a break during the summer from work, it causes unnecessary stress, and there are online summaries of the book already online.

I am pretty sure that half of the kids in my school really hate summer reading. Half of them probably just go on a website and look up there book! When you think of the summer I’m pretty sure you think of the vacation, beach or the pool, or sleeping and relaxing, not reading a book and taking notes. “I miss the days when summer vacation was about relaxing and hanging out with friends. Now it’s all about working and squeezing your friends in when you can.” This is now what our summer is all about thanks to summer reading. I do not support summer reading because summer is our time to relax, while reading the book we will not be focused on it, and mostly all of us forget the book when we get back to school.

Summer break consists of going to the pool and beach, relaxing with friends, going to camp, and eating ice cream. Summer reading does not fit in that list of fun activities. Many students just want a vacation from school, and to not have to worry about anything educational whatsoever. On the other hand, there are the students who want nothing more than to curl up with a good book and learn something new. Therefore, summer reading is appreciated by some, dreaded by others. To fix this problem, I believe that Summer Reading should be extra credit because it will show the hardest workers are, required reading gives a negative intrest for school to those who dislike it, and summer should be a vacation from school work.

Students outside high school walls know summer as being an enjoyable vacation away from nine torturous months of education. However, lately, teachers have turned it into a time of more stress and pain on their high schoolers. By about the eighth month, students are barely running on fumes and begin to get lazy with their school work. How are they expected to do well with assigned summer reading? In my opinion, students should not have summer reading. High schools should not assign summer reading because students should have a time to relax, the reading often doesn't get done, and reading should be done in free time, not forced.

Most high school students would say that summer reading has no point, wastes summer break, or is not fun at all, but I think summer reading should be assigned to all students. Too many kids let their brains’ lose knowledge learned during the school year by sitting around all summer and not keeping their brains active. To prevent this, schools assign summer reading to keep the students’ brains active throughout summer break. I have a strong opinion on this topic and I will explain my reasoning in this essay. I support summer reading because it prevents summer learning loss, varies students’ book selection, and creates more class topics and discussions for the beginning of the year.

Have you ever came back to school from a long summer break, and realized you do not remember everything from the previous year? This usually is from the lack of keeping your brain active throughout the summer. Summer reading is one way to help keep up your brain activity, help with fluency and accuracy, and is also a great topic for teachers to start the year off with.

If you ask Americans what summer is most of them will say, it is a time where people enjoy themselves and take a break from school, however others will say, summer is a time to relax but summer reading is a way to ruin the fun. Some schools have adopted the summer reading method; of course the students hate these summer homework that is required. Schools think that this will improve academic performance, but instead it only stresses the students instead of helping them. I do support summer reading only when kids are doing poorly by academic standards, that way people will get summer break, it does not anger anyone, it help students catch up in school if they need it.

Could you imagine schools that don't have required summer reading? Most of the students that go to those schools probably don't read a single book in the summer. How will that help them? I think schools should always have required summer reading because it will keep their students brains active and focused, it will give their students a "school realted" thing to do in the summer, and it will prepare their students for next grade and the level of difficulty of their new english class.

I think it is a very good idea to do this reading in the summer holidays. Every year in Germany, I had to read a book with about 500 pages in a week even during the school year! Some of the books were very challenging, with complex grammar, new vocabulary and boring topics. After reading, everybody in the "Deutsch class" took a difficult test about the reading content, the new words, and the main- characters. Most of the students had to read the book two or three times to get a good mark. Compared to Germany, the summer reading was very easy, short and interesting and even for me it was not that hard to read a interesting book like The Hunger Games. It is good that some high schools assign summer reading, because it is refreshing your reading skills, making you learn some new words and helping keep homework a regular thing.

Have you ever wanted to vacation abroad? Have you ever wondered how other people live their lives? Or have you just wanted to read a good book? Well, your summer reading can fulfill most of these wishes for you. Summer Reading can also improve your reading level, as well as your overall education. Summer reading is a lot more vital than some people think it is. Summer Reading is important because it improves your education, prepares you for the school year, and will expose you to more genres of reading.

During the summer would you rather be at the pool and hanging out with friends or doing summer reading? Most High School students don’t like summer reading. They either procrastinate or don’t do it at all. High school students would rather do other things like going to the pool or hanging out with friends than doing summer reading. I do not support summer reading being assigned because it wastes time, students should choose their own books and it is not fun.
